    Default Mosfet Selection

I know this is a bit off topic but could be related.....

I am in need of a TTL based fet the can switch a 120v 60hz load at 10 to 15 amps.

I am hoping that some of you have done this already and can recomend a stable part.

Basicaly what I am trying to do is turn on a 120v motor with something solid state, instead of a transistor driving a relay, which I currently use.

Or any other part that can be use directly from the output of a pic.

    Thanks in advance

    Default Solid State Relay

    Hi!

What you need is a solid state relay with a 5V digital input and an AC switched output. You have to get one capable of switching an inductive load and you would be wise to purchase a relay that is considerably over rated. Most solid state relays will switch on with an input voltage of 3 volts. Also, it is best to get one that has an output that switches at zero crossing to minimize transients. I hope this helps.

The solid sate relay is sill the best option for the amps you need.

Cool OMRON FOR TRIAC solid state relays

I have had great luck with OMRON for solid state relays powered by PICS.
Do a google for them, I am not sure If they go that high in current but I am currently using a 240V @ 2A version for my chrismas lights and PIC powered with great success.
    good luck
