Angry Help with Wireless Data Transfer

    Hello All

I Need your professional help hear as i have being pulling my hair out over the last few days think about a project that i am working on at the moment.
i designed a Data logger that is being used a remote location that monitor a couple of sensors and logs the readings to a serial Eeprom.
when the eeprom is say about 80% full i get a text msg from the logger and the data
would have to be downloader to a laptop as the logger has a serial port.
Now i am thinking of ways i can retrieve the data without having to go to the site so i thought i could make a Data call using Gsm but those only work on contract sims and not on PAYG.
I can do it through sms text but that would mean about 5000 text msgs as there are 5000 records stored to the eeprom.
Next i thought i could connect the instrument to the internet but again that is not possible because of the Remote location .
RF is out of the question because of the distance something like 400miles
I am pulling my hair out
What options left do i have please help

    ZOOOOOOOm

Going retro, how about a simple modem link. The logger dials a computer, gets connected, gets the handshake, - send data via Xmodem or some protocol. Slow, but thats how it used to be done. SLIP (serial link IP) is the second thought I have.

I haven't done this before, but I think you could look at any Hayes compatible modem to find what you need to do. Surely, there must be folks here who have greyed using this technology who could give you a clear answer.
