Default LCD display without firmware, problem with code

hi everybody, i m new in the forum!

i have a problem with my pic18m2 and display LCD. i don t fully understand the code written in the picaxe manual 3, but i thought giving the enable signal would switch on he display..

could someone give me a code to switch on the display or write "hello"?

i have only he LCD display connected with 6 pins to the pic (RS, EN, DB4 DB5 DB6 DB7)

the display doesnt seem to switch on the light even if i put 0 and 5 volt on the right pin! it s normal? does it need enable command?

please help me, i m a noob of electronics

Your best bet is to ask on a PICAXE forum:
    http://www.picaxeforum.co.uk/forum.php

This forum is for PIC BASIC PRO. Your PICAXE mcu uses a different compiler.
