Default New range of PICS advertise DDS as a new feature ...can anyone hazard a guess....

...what the DDS will be capable of?

    http://www.microchip.com/wwwproducts...cName=en552961

    Extract here...

"a new Direct Digital Synthesis (DDS) module which is basically a PWM with a fixed 50% duty cycle and increased frequency resolution and lends itself well to applications such as ballast control,"

That almost seems contadictory ....surely PWM means modulating the pulse width...so if it's fixed at 50% duty cycle how can that be PWM?!

If it helps (not that there's an more info), here's the product brief for a similar featured PIC, but in the 16f series...

when I see the words DDS, I normally take it to mean being able to generate sine waves digitally - do you think that's what these new PICS are gonna be able to do?

There's not a load information available as of yet, if so that'll be neat. Time will tell.

Now if they could make some 8 pin USB one, that'll be awesome.

    It's not a bug, it's a random feature.
There's no problem, only learning opportunities.

The product overview pdf states Operation Down to 0.35V, which kind of differs from the Features list (which states 1.8v). That would be interesting, depending on which one it was.
