I wanted to look at modedefs.bas but can't find it. I'm still playing with the Demo PBP that I downloaded. Is that the problem?

modedefs.bas is not much than a big constant declaration/definition program header. You don't really need it since you can declare/build your own by using the equivalent in the PBP manual.
