Hi James,
there are some finished fuel meter available (some are made for boat engines).
Sensors for gas are not found easily, check McMillan www.mcmflow.com , they have what you need but not inexpensive. Does your old car have a gas return line (carburator to tank)?
Once apon a time (late 80's?) certain models of Ford cars with carburetors had an external fuel flow sensor in line with carburetor. The sensor was used for a onboard gas mileage calculator...
I had a GF years ago who had a Ford Capri (I think it was a Capri) with the 2.6L V6 and it had the mileage calculator and fuel flow sensor.
Maybe you could still score one at the auto parts store or wrecking yard.
At least Conrad.de sell fuel meters at reasonable price.
Here is one example of fuel meter circuit: Fuel Meter by Possi
Used fuel meter: Fuel meter (DURCHFLUSS-IMPULSGEBER INDUKTIV POM) (in German)
I hope this will help you. I have my own plans to make fuel meter too. Still under planning stage...

Gusse,
Thanks for the info. Is there a way for me to convert the website to English? Is it an analog output? How much is it?

Hi,
I had bought, years ago, a really nice flow meter from JAEGER ( car meters, etc ...) ...
ref: 324160-01 CADEB
Was used for JAEGER Onboard car calculators of the 80's ...
Do not know if it is still manufactured.

Why insist on using 32 Bits when you're not even able to deal with the first 8 ones ??? ehhhhhh ...
************************************************** ***********************
IF there is the word "Problem" in your question ...
certainly the answer is " RTFM " or " RTFDataSheet " !!!

It seems that links were not working, lets try other way
http://www.conrad.de
Skip ads by clicking weiter in den Conrad Online-Shop >>
Left bar: Stichwortverzeichnis
Select letter: D
Select: Durchfluss-, Füllstands- Sensoren, Schal
There you'll find fuel meters.
And to go to directly to fuel meter page used in application
Type 126055-44 to Schnellsuche and you will go directly to right page.
Price is 39,31€.
I don't know how to translate web page to English (Google translate won't work), but I think you will get some idea about parameters just by looking specs (or use Google translator for single words).
It is analog output and will need an OP-amp. See more details from Possi's page.

Acetronics, couldn't find anything on Jaeger.
Gusse, can you tell if this unit is OK for fuel? If so, I'd like to order one. I couldn't email them..
Thanks

James
This should be OK with fuel (Diesel, Benzin, Wasser, Öl).
Manufacturer web site: http://www.bio-tech-online.de
Can you specify max. flow range needed? You don't want to choke fuel flow with the meter.
Datasheet
Flow range: 0.025 - 2.5 l/min
Output: Sinus 0 - 20mV
Pressure: 10 bar
BR,
-Gusse-
0.250 l/min max flow rate required.
This unit is too large 96mm x 76mm for my motorcycle application.
Thanks
Edit: I selected wrong sensor. This one is good!! How much are they, and how to buy one?
Thanks

Gusse,
I will call tomorrow and order one. Thanks for your help. I can let you know how my project goes.
James
You are wellcome.
I'm interested to know how your project progress, because I have also plans to make similar fuel meter for my bike too.
I think I'll start my project somewhere during autumn-winter time, now it is time for riding with the bike
Of course I have continuous planning going on...
If it's OK for you to post fuel meter code to forum, that would be great.

I leave for a road trip in the morning to Zion National Park, The Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam, and other places on my CBX. I wil have to order the flow meter when I return, the time difference makes it difficult to order. What bike do you have Gusse?
James
Sounds great! I have once visited The Grand Canyon some couple of years ago, nice view and landscape. I'm a bit jealous to you.
I have Kawasaki ZZR-1200 and we will do our road trip during mid-summer (2weeks). Destination is Odessa in Ukraine (ashore of The Black Sea)
Have a nice trip!

Hi Guys,
Conrad in Germany (and some others) sends their stuff all over the world, EXCEPT USA & CANADA. It says so on their web site, page "Lieferung International" The page is available in english, just click on the icon "English". Here is the link:

When I need stuff from them, I have relatives in Germany get it for me. If anyone needs short translations from german to english, please let me know.
