    Re: 8-bit Bootloader from Microchip

After using it with the Microchip IPE (which is not very good design IMHO), I found this one http://www.pickitplus.co.uk/Typesetter/ for my Pickit2 and Pickit3.

It is a stand alone application...

    Re: 8-bit Bootloader from Microchip

My advice. Forget all about bootloader. It just not worth it.

    With ICSP you have:

    1. Better programming speed
    2. Safer and works with ALL chips, not only with those that a bootloader exists....
  3. Re: Testing a GSM module via Mecanique's Serial Communicator - "terminator" issue?

Finally I found the module and time to test the SIM900 board.

Unfortunatelly, while on Power up the module sends what is expected to send, it does not respond to the commands I send.

    Tried any...
  4. Re: 2G, 3G and 4G - how do I determine what my module is capable of?

The speeds of each protocol are these:

    LTE

    Uplink up to 50Mbps
    Downlink up to 100Mbps

    HSPA+

    Re: Serial Sharing

Depends on the driver. But does no harm to have a high-ish value, say of 10K just to fix a space condition on the serial bus.

    Re: Unable to execute MPASMX

It seems that they rely on MPLBX: https://www.sfcompiler.co.uk/wiki/pmwiki.php?n=SwordfishUser.SystemConvert but is a good option now they support it again.

As for the MikroE, previous versions...

    Re: Unable to execute MPASMX

Henrik, no one denied the paid new update to PBP. The problem is that Melabs is Charles and Charles is working somewhere, not at Melabs as his day job.

So this update think will take more time to...

    Re: Unable to execute MPASMX

Comforting what Mike post but you can't disagree the PBP evolution seems to be on Auto-Pilot...

I 'm still using the compiler and probably will be using it as long as the chips I select are...

    Re: Unable to execute MPASMX

Henrik, if the compiler does not support the new PIC's there is no point in updating to new MPLABX assembler, right?

    Re: Unable to execute MPASMX

If the .lst file is different now (in the MPLABX IDE environment) for sure there would be no compatibility...

But if the change in the name is the problem, maybe the pic-as.exe can be renamed and...

    Re: good story about Microchip

I agree about that Mike. Have positive feelings about Renesas also despite the fact I will not use their MCU.

Re: How to prevent variable going below zero?

If you mean a compiler problem, no. It is not.

If you mean how binary arithmetic works, yes. That is how you count, add or subtract in binary having byte, word or other size variables. In any case...
  17. Re: Testing a GSM module via Mecanique's Serial Communicator - "terminator" issue?

    You are right.I missed that.

Well, I don't know what is wrong. I remember once, was testing on a SIM900 module with no problems on this. Sure a CR was needed to terminate the command.

    For a...
  18. Re: Testing a GSM module via Mecanique's Serial Communicator - "terminator" issue?

Do you have other terminal program to test? My suspicions fall on MCSP serial communicator.

  19. Re: Testing a GSM module via Mecanique's Serial Communicator - "terminator" issue?

I never faced such a problem with SIMcom modules.

CR is the necessary for line or command termination. LF does not that...

Are absolutely sure you send out LF instead of CR?

You are absolutely right! I do not trust that this may be the case for any PIC though.

Re: How to prevent variable going below zero?

I like it how a simple logic problem CuriousOne had, lead to another topic with negative numbers and STATUS register!

    Quite interesting!

  24. Re: Testing a GSM module via Mecanique's Serial Communicator - "terminator" issue?

To add on Richard's post, if you insist on using the Serial Communicator, Help says this:

    Parse Control Characters

When enabled, the parse control characters option enables you to send control...

    1. tumbleweed caught one problem in your code.

    2. The variable I is altered some where? What check are you making ensuring it will not get a value to lead in negative results doing a -5...
