You are rigth, according with the standard, the CMGS command needs a " for the phone number. But for some reason on my modem does not need it. I will change just to follow the standard.

Here is a section from my program to send a sms. I'm using a WAVECOM modem, but I think the AT commans are the same for all brands.

Just pull up the MCLR pin with a 4.7k resistor. Or change the "MCLR Pin function" to "Input pin" on the meProg Configuration section.

Hi, I think a 7805 could be a solution for the output from the PLC to the PIC, but what about the output from the PIC to the PLC?
I still prefer the optocoupler solution for both sides.
