Pickit3 12C508A won't connect -- MPLAB IPE

I've been using my pickit3 with mplab ipe and all has been perfect using 16F1847.

Why in the world can't I connect when I choose 12C508A? The connect button stays grayed out.

But when I go back and select 16F1847 again, all is fine and the connect button enables again.

?? Thanks for any help.

I'm guessing you wanted a PIC12F508?
