interfacing p18f2550 with wavecom gsm G900/1800

hi thr... im doing a project by sending sms with gsm modem via MAX232 .

i dun know wat happen to the connection or wat ? the connection below:

Tx (pic) ---> T1IN(MAX232) ---> pin2 (D9connector)
Rx (pic) ---> R1IN(MAX232) ---> pin3 (D9connector)

between max232 D9 connector to GSM (D15 connector), i made a cable myself .... only use pin 2,3,5(GND) .

So, do i need to short other part of the connector from max232 to gsm connector port ?

by the way, do any1 has any example C code for reference in USART ? im using a 4Mhz, 9600bps for my usart.
