Re: Best General Purpose PIC
it would totally depend on what version of pbp you use and how many pins you need
anything with pps [ PERIPHERAL PIN SELECT (PPS) MODULE ] is a good start
16F88 is best used as landfill
Re: Best General Purpose PIC
For 8-pin, I use the PIC16F18313
For 14- & 20-pins, the PIC16F18426-446
For 28- & 40-pins, the PIC18F27_47Q43
Of course, there are times I need specific functions, like USB. As a USB translator, the PIC16F1455. For more full functionality with USB, the PIC18F25_45K50.
These PICs allow me to breadboard ideas. Moving to the "best PIC for the job", I may change from the PIC18F27Q43 to a PIC18F25K40. Hope this gives you some ideas.

Richard,
Oh no!
Certainly not Landfill.
They were pretty good and deserve a better fate than that!

Re: Best General Purpose PIC
First check your version of PBP if supports the PIC of your choice.
A one PIC for all is hard demand though.

what about as part of an "interesting" mosaic along with other obsolete electronic parts inlaid into a coffee table
using a clear epoxy
Re: Best General Purpose PIC
With the delivery times now on Microchip, I guess one would use whatever there is as stock...

Re: Best General Purpose PIC
I don't see any advantage of modern PICs being utilized by PBP.
So I stick with PIC16F886 for 28 pin and PIC16F887 for 40 pin.
