View Full Version : Default thread age for FAQ's

Hello, this is my first post here and I wanted to comment on something that may make it easier for new users. I have been able to answer most of my questions by searching the forums here and it has been very helpful.

I noticed that the FAQ forum had only 2 threads visible because the default settings are set for 1 month (forum default). I know you can change it but I think a lot of the "read the manual/FAQ" type questions may be eliminated by having the FAQ section list threads from the beginning as a default (if it can be done).

Thanks,
John Hannon

Oh well, I thought it was a good idea. Someone new to the forum could view all the FAQ's instead of two as a default. It sure made me stumble around.

Hi John,

Welcome to the forum.
Your idea is a good one.
Let’s hope that the forum software can make exceptions.

Keep up the good work.

I agree with John. I started using this forum in 2003 and have found everything I need(so far).

I thought the FAQ was set up that way to make us work for the answer.

The other forums are default one year, it must be a conspiracy!! :)

It can't be done (currently with version of the Forum software) on an individual section by section basis, eg FAQ's only. However, each Member can set it in their own preferences...

Goto USER CP
Goto Edit Options
Goto Default Thread Age Cut-Off
Set Show all Threads
Save your Settings

This is really a cunning method for Admin to determine Members technical competence before posting problems... took me forever to figure it... equivallent to someone posting "How can I post questions to this forum?" - Yes it HAS happened!

Thanks for the info. Never even looked there - but I have read the manual.:D

Maybe this thread should be "sticky" in the FAQ?

I'm a little confused. They can't be set separately but the faq section is the only one that only shows the last month? Can this thread be a sticky at the top of the faq? Browsing from my phone I missed, (overlooked, didn't pay attention to) the formatting & filtering options at the bottom. made of feel like an idiot. I just may be, but prefer not to be proven one so easily. lol
