<font color="red"><b>It looks like the 16F84 maybe at the end of it's life. I was searching the latest RS components catalog and it appears that they no longer support these chips!</b></font>

Not that it bothers me, but others (learners) may be interested to know this as a lot of PIC starter books suggest using the F84 chip as the first chip of choice.

The <b>16F628</b> is a good replacement.

they are cute, but i much prefer the larger 16F877 nice and chunky with lots of useful functions and I/O 's

According to Microchips website little guy is still in production. Might be that the source just isn't carry that particular part anymore.
