Voice CODEC

I need to digitize voice and send it over a short RF link to a receiver and PIC based recorder. I know there are as many CODEC chips out there as there are voices, and would like a simple, no frills, single IC for both sides. Preferably easy to get also (DigiKey/ Mouser etc). Any suggestions?
